The Bishop Gorman women’s tennis team have been dominating in the start of the 2024-2025 season by winning their first two back to back games against Meadows and Foothill at Bishop Gorman on August 20th and 21st.
Last season the women came close to winning the state championship by scoring second place, the furthest they have come since 2013. This year, they plan to take home the ‘24-‘25 state title.
Captains Yvonna Shuckman ‘25 and Emma Balelo ‘25 have been leading this season’s team to victory with passion, and hard work. Shuckman stated that “leading by example” shows the team what Bishop Gorman culture is about and, “during practices, we work hard and everyone is contributing to cleaning up the courts. “We are all cheering for those on the court.”
The tennis team plans puts in the work to win their matches and secure a spot in the playoffs. A big contributor to building the women’s tennis team is through team bonding activities which helps the team grow closer to each other on and off the field.
With a tough and challenging season ahead of them, Balelo and Shuckman plan to lead through example and create a strong connection with the team, “I have learned from previous captains to show a lot of leadership, speak up, and be very involved with the team helping anyone who needs it,” said Balelo.
