Volleyball Throwing Shade In the Sunshine State
Bishop Gorman Women’s Volleyball won three out of six of their games in Gainesville, Florida August 30-31. In Florida, they played some of the best teams in the country.
Winning their first three games against Osceola, North Cobb, and St. Thomas Aquinas, the lady Gaels placed in the top eight. Their goal was to go a day undefeated. The second day of the tournament, they took three devastating losses against Carrollwood Day, Winter Park, and Lovejoy.
Committed to UNLV, senior Brooklynn Williams ‘25, said that completing the goal felt amazing as they lost a lot of valuable seniors this past season. As a team they plan to evaluate the experience from this trip and focus on the details that were the most struggling, and use it to achieve their other goal of winning state.
Carsyn Stansberry ‘25 said that the long rallies against good teams helped her as an athlete, “these long rallies really pushed me to be more aggressive and smarter when it became longer and harder to stay on top.”
Even though the team played six games of volleyball in two days, they still found time for team bonding. Williams ‘25 said that the trip to Universal Studios was so much fun and that “being with my team at the park, we were able to bond a lot and I was able to get closer to people I wasn’t close with before”.
Overall, the Florida trip was a great way for the girls to get to know each other and get ready for the season ahead.
