Coming off a four game losing streak, the Bishop Gorman varsity baseball team regained their footing with a 7-5 win over Desert Oasis High School on Friday, April 26th.
The team has battled through a season full of challenges, but after a comeback win against Desert Oasis the Gaels regained a .500 winning percentage. Although, in league play they still sit in the fifth seed with a 4 and 5 record, this pivotal win gave the team a spark to feed off on.
Not only did this win spark something in that dugout, but the players commemorate team standouts such as Burke Mabeus ‘24 and Colton Boardman ‘24 in bringing about success and “always trying to spark energy and motivation in our team,” stated right handed pitcher, Blake Coulthard ‘24.
Boardman and Mabeus both contributed two hits in the game with Mabeus batting in an impressive four runs. They are among the top leaders in every category on the team and outfielder Giovanni Pieri attributes a huge part to the team’s success to them. “They show their love and passion for the game by the grind that they have in their work ethic everyday, and they make sure everyone else is working to that standard,” Pieri stated.
As the Gaels look to revitalize their disappointing season in comparison to last year, they look towards these two as pillars, especially with playoffs just around the corner.
