The BGHS softball team is igniting the diamond during the start of the season, looking to keep the same momentum going forward
Coming off of a win against Coronado and a loss against Centennial, the Gaels look to regroup and prepare for what’s next. The team is filled with many talented players, especially pitchers Gianna Horyak ‘25 and Makamae Eugenio ‘27.
Eugenio, only a freshman, pitched a great game against Coronado as she struck out eight batters over seven innings while only allowing one earned run.
“We as a team started off the game slow. But as the game went on, we played great and came out with the win,” Eugenio said.
Backing up the pitchers in the field are Brooklyn Hicks ‘25 and Allie Bernado ‘24. Bernardo, one of two seniors on the team, is looking to lead the Gaels to a great season this year. Bernardo stated that “there’s a lot less room for mistakes, so I’ve been trying to get the team to focus really hard and realize that.”
The Gaels have won three state championships in a row and have recently been moved to division 5A. With that move comes better teams that the Gaels must play. Bernardo emphasized that having limited errors will help the team win more games.
The Gaels look to win more games and limit their mistakes as they prepare for a tournament in California on April 6th.
