The freshmen and sophomore mock trial team went to the Nevada Mock Trial State Competition at the Federal courthouse in downtown Las Vegas on March 8th and placed 2nd overall, with Isabelle Nassar ‘26 winning best attorney, and Lauren Brown ‘26 winning best witness.
“This is the first time Bishop Gorman mock trial qualified a team consisting of only freshman and sophomores,” said Mock Trial Advisor, Mr. Robert Crisp. The team placed 2nd in regionals, and that qualified them for the state competition.
The state competition was either new for every one or only their second time doing a mock trial at the high school level.
“I was really nervous,” said Nassar ‘26, “I am only a sophomore, and there are not a lot of freshmen and sophomore teams there.”
“Everyone performed so well and throughout the competition, and I believe everyone improved from their first trial at state through the state championship,” said Mr. Crisp.
The practice that is needed in order to make it to the state championship is not easy. Everyone not only has to practice everyday after school until four p.m. but they have to contact each other outside of school to practice.
Each round, judges get to vote on who they thought was the best attorney. After every round is over, the judges see who earned the most votes, and the winner receives the best attorney award.
“I wasn’t really expecting it. I went into the competition not even knowing you could win best attorney,” said Nassar ‘26.
