On Tuesday, December 5th, 2023, Bishop Gorman celebrated the first week of advent with a special liturgy and penance service.
During the liturgy, Father Knee gave a beautiful homily on preparing oneself for the birth of Christ through penance. Students in the worship choir sang along with student readers from all four grade levels as part of the examination of conscience for those attending the service.
One such student, Karoline Watters ‘26, who participated in the worship choir and read part of the examination of conscience, talked about the preparation that went into the liturgy. “We were given our scripts on Monday, so we had three days to prepare it,” she said.
Her reading was on the importance of keeping holy the Sabbath day, and spending time with people you love that day. Reflecting on her reading and the overall impact of the liturgy, Watters said, “It is important to be prepared for the coming of Christ.”
Priests from all over the archdiocese came to Bishop Gorman to hear confessions from students, faculty, and staff throughout the day.
