On Friday, September 29th, the Bishop Gorman football team beat Arbor View with a score of 48 to 26.
However, it wasn’t the varsity team who won, it was the JV team. Due to the forfeit of Arbor View’s varsity team, the two JV teams decided to go head to head.
Because the JV team was playing the homecoming game, many players felt the stress of attempting to play with lots of eyes on them. Many members of the team commented on how this night gave them a taste of what it was like to play for varsity. Jackson Brewington ‘26 expressed, “I feel like this is a good gateway to varsity. There is a lot of pressure on us with homecoming and everything.”
The desire to impress Gorman fans was prominent, and that created a lot of pressure on the team to perform well. JV stepped up and beat Arbor View, and it truly made the parents, fans, and coaches proud. It was definitely a different, unforgettable experience for the JV football team. “A JV game on Friday and on homecoming, I don’t think that has ever happened before,” Dylan McCollugh ‘25 stated, “It was definitely a fun experience to get out there and win.”
With 23 Seniors on varsity this year, there will be a lot of chances for JV players to fill in those spots. This game served as a good opportunity for JV to experience the mental strain and anxiety that big, important games may cause them. It also gave them an idea of the mental strength the team as a whole must have in order to play for varsity in the future and be successful on the field. These players are the future of our Gorman team.
Many players are looking forward to being the new stars of varsity. If the JV team continues winning by margins as big as the homecoming game, the soon-to-be stars of our Bishop Gorman varsity team will dominate any team that stands in their path.
