Senior night brought crowds to come watch the seniors on the soccer team take on Green Valley High School.
This game had it all, from four goals from a single player to a bicycle kick goal for Green Valley. This game was full of excitement and energy.
Andrew Sanchez ‘24 invited many players to come and watch the game. The fans electrified the game and put energy into the team. This ended with one of the team’s biggest wins, 6-1, against a Green Valley team that was on a three game winning streak.
“The atmosphere at senior night brought out Gorman’s true colors.” Sanchez said, “The amount of people that showed up for our seniors was something special and it shows how united Gorman is as a school and community.”
Many players were saddened since it was their last time playing for Gorman. Sanchez had to reflect on his four seasons playing for Gorman. From winning the state championship last year to simply making friends on the team who have left or who are leaving, or even who will be here for a couple years to come. He is all so proud of what he did and of what the team had accomplished.
“I am beyond proud of my Gorman career. The 2022 team won the southern regional and 5A state title which was a tremendous accomplishment for us as a team and me as a person. Not only have I won those titles, but I’ve made lifelong friendships with a lot of my teammates who have already graduated.” Sanchez described.
After this final game at Bishop Gorman and the ending of the men’s soccer season. Many players have realized that their soccer careers are over. It had been many years of hard work and dedication to a sport that students had loved since they were young.
Sanchez concluded with, “unfortunately, my soccer career as a whole, officially came to an end after our loss. I’ve played for the past 11 years of my life and have come to the decision that I’m ready to move on and seek new challenges and opportunities outside of the sport.”
