The Diocese of Las Vegas officially became the Archdiocese of Las Vegas.
On October 16, 2023, there was a mass, located at the Shrine of the Holy Redeemer, to celebrate this occasion. At this mass there were over 100 priests, deacons, bishops, and even two cardinals who came from the Vatican.
“There were 43 bishops, 2 cardinals, and over 100 priests,” Mr. Kilduff stated.
A diocese becomes an archdiocese when the diocese simply becomes too large, and is in need of more leadership and coordination. As of now, Las Vegas is the 34th archdiocese in the United States.
Mr. Kilduff added, “The Archdiocese of Las Vegas includes the Diocese of Las Vegas, Reno, and Salt Lake City.”
Before the mass, ASG students showed their thanks to our newly inducted Archdiocese by helping pass out programs and prayer cards to the mass attendees.
ASG Senior, Gabe Clemente stated, “I had so much fun at the mass, seeing all the priests and bishops was definitely a sight I do not think I will ever forget.”
Becoming an archdiocese has been a long and hard process. During the formation of the archdiocese, the head leaders of the churches held months-long consultations and meetings with representatives from the Vatican.
Congratulations to Archbishop Leo Thomas who is the first ever archbishop of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas!
