The Sphere, an entertainment venue on the Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada, opened Sept. 2023.
The venue’s first concerts were held on the weekend of Sept. 29th to Oct. 1st by the rock band U2. The events coming next will be hosted by Aura, a real life humanoid robot, that will give an artificially generated tour with naturalistic and documentary elements. It will also be hosting film and sports events to be announced in the future.
To get into the festive mood, The Sphere has tied into the holiday seasons. It was first seen when it lit up for the first time to celebrate the Fourth of July. It can also transform into many different things like a pumpkin for Halloween, or an Easter egg for Easter.
“I saw it turn into a pumpkin while passing the strip, and it was really cool,” says London Casey ‘26.
The illuminating lights are extremely entertaining and could get distracting, “I think it looks really cool from the freeway but can be distracting because of the bright colors and the way it changes its designs,” says Cassidy Gottesman ‘26.
Although the concern that this giant ball of glamor would increase traffic and accidents in the surrounding areas, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department records no increase in such factors. And so, despite the dangers that could be posed from the spectacular views of The Sphere, it is worth driving and taking a safe look.
