Bishop Gorman Scores Victory Over State Champions
The women’s varsity soccer team defeated last year’s state champions, Faith Lutheran, 2-1 at Bishop Gorman on Aug. 24th.
Last year the girls suffered a loss against Shadow Ridge in the playoffs for state. This year they are coming back for redemption.
For the seniors, “it’s our last year so we definitely want to win state”, said Captain Kennedy Herman ‘24.
Herman said that winning state this year would be a redemption year from the two previous years of falling short.
Not only is it the players goals but it is the coaches goal as well. Head coach Douglas Borgel, believes that by staying on top of the competition this season, it will lead his team to victory, “since there are only ten teams in the 5A division, competition is good and strong.”
He continues to say that, “we were young the past few seasons and now our freshmans are sophomores and our sophomores are juniors and so on, we have just gotten older, more mature, and more experienced. So now we are a very experienced team with a lot of juniors and seniors.”
The soccer team is doing everything they can to prepare for the rest of the season. Herman believes that as long as everyone does their part and puts in the work, they can come out on top this season.
“We are all mentally and physically prepared. We just need to work as a team when we get to that moment,” said Herman.
Bishop Gorman is working hard to land as State Champions this year.
“Our goal every year is to win a state title and the best strategy for that is to stay and compete at the highest level all season long,” said Borgel.
