Suzanne Collins shocks the book industry once again with her upcoming movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in theaters on Nov. 17, 2023.
When a movie is made based off of a book, it is common for the directors to leave out important information that makes viewers more intrigued with the plot. This tends to cause a lot of controversy between fandoms because it messes with the original storyline and ruins the meaning of the book.
Freshman Anthony Villanueva ‘27 said, “I like reading books better than watching movies because they go more in depth when it comes to descriptive traits, inner dialogue, feelings, and storylines while movies lack most of those.”
The Hunger Games books and movies are a popular franchise with a devoted fan base. Due to the importance of The Hunger Games, there are high expectations for the movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. People worry that Suzanne Collins will disappoint them with the lack of text to film switch.
“When I read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes book, I felt like I was in that reality and I could use my imagination to picture what is occurring on the pages,” Villanueva ‘27 said,. “but when I watched the movies, I just wished they provided more context so others who didn’t read the books understood what was going on better.”
Whether one is a fan of The Hunger Games books or movies, the anticipation is palpable.
“Even though it is likely for this movie to leave out important plot points, I still believe it will become very successful because The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes connects a lot of dots from the past three books & movies,” Villanueva ‘27 said.
