For the first time EVER at Bishop Gorman High School: The Gaels are 4A Wrestling State Champions. Every point mattered, as the Gaels earned their state title by half a point over runner-up Palo Verde and 12.5 points better than third place Arbor View. The team would score a total of 149 points, highlighted by a dominant semi-final and medal rounds; where 6 out of the 9 eligible wrestlers would earn victories in the Semi-Final round to help propel Bishop Gorman to first place amongst the team standings. The Medal rounds were fruitful as well, as 11 out of the 15 total qualified wrestlers would earn a medal at the championships. Among those include 2 state champions (Alex Fonte ‘23 and Kage Mir ‘25), 4 state runner-ups (Vincent Vogan ‘24, Ryan Kucker ‘23, Daniel Gostanian ‘24, Jacob Norcross ‘24), 2 third-placers (Colin Kirkpatrick ‘23, Dathan Rodriguez ‘23) and 3 fourth-placers (Adam Jimenez ‘25, Ashton Lampman ‘23, Cash Bazan ‘26).

Varsity 175 pounder Cash Bazan touched on the success of the team’s performance saying “It’s what we’ve been training for all year. This team is the hardest working in the state and it showed when it mattered most.”

This is the school’s first team trophy for wrestling in the history of school. Beating out 4A power houses Arbor View and Palo Verde high school.

Senior Ryan Kuckler talked about the surge past Arbor View and Palo Verde saying “They have a lot of good wrestlers, we just had more dogs out on the mat that were willing to give everything they had and it showed in the team points.”

The team looks forward to jumping a division to 5A, the most competitive division in all of Nevada wrestling.

Junior Jacob Norcross touched base with The Lance about the move to 5A saying  “It’s exactly where we want and deserve to be, If we wanna be the best, we have to beat the best and 5A is where we’ll get that opportunity.”

Bishop Gorman looks to replace 4 starting seniors in the middle weight categories next year, as the team looks to keep their momentum to compete for a 5A team championship.

Senior Colin Kirkaptrick commented on next year’s team saying “I have no doubt they’ll be competitive next year; the future looks bright and I’m excited to see what they’ll do next year.”
