Ash Wednesday

Bishop Gorman students receive ashes from Mr. Sinclair.

Wednesday February 22 was Ash Wednesday marking the beginning of the season of Lent in the Catholic Church. Bishop Gorman students headed to Holy Spirit for a ceremony to receive their ashes. The ceremony consisted of readings and a Gospel accompanied by a Homily from Father Bill Kenny with insight on things that could help students at  Bishop Gorman experience a more fulfilling Lent.

The ashes a person receives on Ash Wednesday are a sign of faith. Many students who would not identify themselves as Catholic decided to also get ashes. Getting ashes does not just signify faith but the suffering that goes with it.

“Getting ashes is important because I think it is important to show your relationship with God through the Lenten season,” Emma Kaffenberger ‘23 shared.
