BGHS bowling teams go to the semi-finals

Our boys and girls bowling teams end their season off strong.

The men’s and women’s BGHS bowling teams finished out the season after the men lost in the semifinals of the team state championship.

Dom Montoya ’23 bowled 750 in the semifinals, which is an average of 250 points per game over 3 games, leading the team in points. The whole team concluded their season with some solid numbers as well. The boys bowling team finished 4th in their division with Dom leading Gorman’s squad.

“I am so glad I got the opportunity to join and compete for the Gael’s bowling team. We hope that the foundations he set this year with our team will lead to our team going even further next year.”

The Bishop Gorman High School cheer team showed up to the men’s state championship to cheer them on. Not everyone is happy about that. Many people in the bowling community think that having the cheer team present distracts the bowlers with excessive noise. Women’s bowling team member Abby Hartz ’23  gave her thoughts, “I just love the idea of the cheer team coming out to support our bowling team. It is so great that we are able to have them.”

Montoya competed his final season as a Gael this year. He will be going off to Huntington University while continuing his bowling journey. It is rather rare to get a scholarship for bowling. “It is exciting to be able to bowl at the next level and it is something that I am both looking forward to and nervous for,” Montoya stated.
