The BGHS dance team gives us insight into benefits and upcoming events planned for the new year. In the years before, only seniors were eligible to be captain and the previous coach chose the captain. This year, the new coach decided to change the way the captains were elected. Captain of the dance team, Lauren Peterson, says that this was the first year that all the members of the dance team could vote on a junior or a senior to be captain, based on the speech they gave to the team. Since everyone was voting this year, it was a complete surprise for Lauren when she found out she could lead the team and have the role as captain. She says it was an “exciting feeling.”
Senior Alyssa Gonzalas and Peterson, both captains of the dance team, do a lot of the behind the scenes activities like figuring out practices, outfits, and designing warmups, and other fun activities. Ninth grader, Kayla Sells, states that that dance team has cool merch and jackets that they receive for being a part of the team. She thinks that is a great benefit for being on the team.
For future events, Kayla states that “the dance team has some exciting basketball games planned” such as performing at halftime and helping out with the community. The BGHS students are looking forward to what upcoming events and performances the dance dance team has planned out.
