On October 24th, 2022, the head coach of Bishop Gorman’s Varsity Women’s Volleyball, Mr. Nunley, celebrated his 500th win against Silverado High School.

Not only was this a special game for him, but it was also significant for the seniors, as it was Senior Night.

“It’s always super emotional for the players because that’s one of the last home games they’ll ever play as a Gorman Volleyball athlete…It’s also emotional for the coaches because we’ve seen these kids grow from small and immature freshmen into these strong, independent women who are going to college,” Mr. Nunley said, “The night is always really tough to focus on what we’re there to do and that’s to get another win and get us one step closer to winning the state championship.”

The game was definitely a roller coaster of emotions for everyone, but the girls were still able to stay focused despite the distractions, allowing them to pull through and get the win.

“I wasn’t even thinking about the 500th win…It didn’t even hit me that it happened. I was just focused on the game and the win…At the end when they brought out the banner it felt very special to be recognized like that when I wasn’t even thinking about it,” Mr. Nunley revealed.

Mr. Nunley also mentioned that he loved how senior night really showed some appreciation for the parents of all the players. “Nobody ever gets to where they’re at by doing everything themselves, other people have had to help us get there, so I like that the parents were recognized because they’re a big part of these kids’ lives and a part of our program.”
